SHOOT LOCATION: LABIOMISTA

In 2017, Koen Vanmechelen moved his studio and foundation headquarters to LABIOMISTA, situated in a former public zoo in the Belgian city of Genk.

LABIOMISTA, literally 'mix of life', is in itself an all-encompassing art project, set up as a model for the philosophical ideas on which Vanmechelen’s work is based. LABIOMISTA hosts Vanmechelen’s first Open University of Diversity and related foundations. The site is also where the artist's animals live and breed. It is both a laboratory and a library of biocultural diversity.

SHOOT LOCATION: THE SAHARA

The Sahara in Lommel lives up to its name: the vast expanse of sand resembles a miniature desert. But there are also clear blue lakes, heather strips and fragrant coniferous and deciduous forests. The picturesque landscapes and the enormous variety make a walk here a unique experience. Many birds have found a home on and around the water. In winter it is a bivouac for, among other things, grebes, ducks and swans.

Kattevennen is one of the gateways to the Hoge Kempen National Park. You can walk, cycle and relax with the whole family. There is also a nice mini golf and a playground to romp around. In the middle of this family-friendly domain, you will find the Cosmodrome from which you can explore the universe in the 360° cinema. In Kattevennen you discover nature and the universe.

KAYLEIGH

SHOOT LOCATION: CONNECTERRA

The name Connecterra refers to connecting (Connect) with the earth (Terra). The area has been mapped out as a recreation area on the site where the Eisden coal mine was located until 1987. Connecterra is part of the larger Terhills project on the former mining site near the Maasmechelen Village outlet center. In addition to the main gate of the national park, Terhills also includes a hotel, an outdoor water park, a bungalow park, an SME zone, a hotel and space for shops. In addition, the area adjacent to the national park will be added to the national park. In order to guarantee a natural connection to the Meuse valley, an ecological corridor will be provided that will keep the area eastwards, in the direction of the Meuse, free. The entire Terhills area was previously known as Maasvallei Recreation Area.

SHOOT LOCATION: DE TEUT

De Teut in Zonhoven, together with Ten Haagdoorn in Houthalen-Helchteren, forms a vast nature reserve of more than 1700 hectares and can call itself the largest heath area in Central Limburg. The alternation of stream valleys, fens, dunes, woods, fields and heathlands invite you for a pleasant visit. So put on your walking shoes, jump on your bike or discover this beautiful piece of nature on horseback. Thanks to diligent sheep, the heath splendor is preserved.
